1 hour livestream artists’ talk with Emma Thomson from Correspondences Studio.
During the stream we discussed my new work ‘Moonee Moonee Underpass 2020’, created in connection with A Room with a View.
Holding this artist’s talk was beneficial to my research in solidifying ideas on relationships to place through audiovisual media. By articulating ideas, and speaking with others, you further solidify your ideas through decolonial discourse. The recorded document itself is valuable for reflection and developing the writing of the exegesis. The conversation crosses through my recent work and focuses on Moonee Moonee Underpass, a work made during a residency with Correspondences Studio duringNarrm’s longer lockdown of 2021.
The project Room with a View focuses on everyday being and ritual featuring contemporary works by leading female creatives, examining the creative impulse in the role of the home in shaping and nurturing our sense of self. Moonee Moonee Underpass was made within my 5km limit during Narrms longest lockdown, where the ritual of walking and taking notice became very important in terms of staying together during a difficult time. Through noticing one sound at place, this process of walking and listening was expanded to include the visual, sonic repsonsiveness and ecological issues of the area, all discussed within the talk.
