Incinerator Art Award (IAA) is Incinerator Gallery’s annual art award and exhibition. Established in 2015, IAA celebrates contemporary arts practices that are socially engaged, environmentally aware, and seek to enrich community through dynamic, creative practice. This nationally recognised award demonstrates the value and virtue art delivers to a contemporary Australian audience, underpinning Incinerator Gallery as a vital space for pluralistic, poetic and political discourse.

Conversation Piece was awarded inclusion in the Incinerator Art Award 2021 : Art for Social Change.
The expansive multi-channel and sculptural installation originally exhibited at BUS Projects earlier in the year, was re-shaped into a dual channel, screen-based word, with the 4 channels of shifting audio in ceramic vessels being remixed into a spatial stereo work for 2 pairs of headphones. The main conceptual focus of re-presenting the work this way, was in it’s looping possibilities. The entire work consists of 3 looping elements. Each video is of different lengths, and the soundtrack of a longer length still. The 3 all begin playing where they left off, and overlap and shift across time due to their differing lengths being looped. This produces the effect of never experiencing the work in the same way twice between the two visual elements, and the stereo work for headphones.

More on the first iteration of the work itself can be read here : www.disrhythms.net/conversation-piece/
